New Year Festival
Let's experience Japanese traditional New Year's events That are rarely seen in modern times.
(1)Sake for hospitality to celebrate the New Year (Near the main gate Otemon 9:00~)
Free distribution of sacred sake to visitors.
Hot Amazake ( fermented non-alcoholic rice drink ) is also available.

(2)Tousenkyou (At Shirahagi Hall, Open all day, The match
with the geisya is 13:30)
An Japanese traditional game in which throw a folding fan aiming the target on the table and compete for scores.
For those who have won the match with geisha, a small gift will be given.
(3)First Writing of the year (Next to the Nanamangoku, Open all day)
Calligraphy tools such as ink and brush are prepared in the room.
Feel free to write new Year's resolutions and show them on the bulletin board.
(4)Traditional New Year's play (Shirahagi Hall, Open all day)
You can experience various games played in New Year in Japan.
・Paper kite flying
・Hanetsuki(Japanese traditional badminton)
・Fuku-warai (Japanese game similar to "pin the tail on the donkey")
・etc.
(5)Shishimai:Performance of the guardian lion mask (Walk around the facility at 9:30~/12:50~)
This guardian lion is a very auspicious imaginary being.
You can get rid of bad luck by having guardian lion bite your head.

New year exhibition by local handicraft lovers.
Enjoy watching the gorgeous and decorative battledore and various handcrafts perfect for the New Year.

Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura Photo Contest
We will recruit works as follows.
Evaluate works that conveys the feeling of enjoying Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura rather than shooting technique.
<Application period>
※Application acceptance has been closed.
October 1st(Tue) to November 30th(Sat), 2019.
<Contents of recruitment>
Eligible for application are unprocessed digital photos (JPEG within 5MB) taken in the facility after October 2018.
Please select and apply to one of 4 categories: “Landscape”, “Person”, “Rental costume”, “Show”.
<Application method>
Please send photos from your PC or smartphone using the application from below.
There is no limit to the number of entries.

After the end of the period, 1 piece of work (4 pieces of work in total) will be selected for each categories by voting by the facility staff and will be announced on the official website and SNS in January 2020.

Treasure Hunting Game ”Ninpocho”
Discover the treasure hidden in the park by solving some puzzles, then you will win a prize!
There are 3 courses of different difficulty levels.
*All puzzles are written in Japanese.
- beginner: Treasure Hunting Stamp Rally ”Nyanmage Ninpocho”
Let’s look for the treasure by collecting stamps on an illustration map with some hints written in Hiragana.
-Required time/ approx.30min. (There are individual differences.)
-No age limit but it requires ability to understand Hiragana.
- medium: Puzzle Solving & Treasure Hunting “Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura Ninpocho”
You should complete some missions written in Makimono scroll (Ninja’s command book) and find the treasure box. That requires you to be proficient in Japanese.
-Required time/ approx.60min. (There are individual differences.)
-No age limit but we recommend it for upper elementary grades and older.
- advanced: Challenging the Super Difficult Puzzle ”Black Code; the special edition of Ninpocho”
Only first 25 applicants can challenge it on each day. It requires not only Japanese skill but also a high level of problem solving ability.
-Required time/ approx.3hr. (There are individual differences.)
-Limited for adults (middle school and older)

Ninja Training Experience for Kids
This is a ninja lesson for children of elementary school age or younger.
Ninja teachers will choose challengers by lottery and submit some tasks such as throwing Shuriken (ninja star).
Accomplish them and get a present from ninjas!

It is said that your dream will come true by writing it on a strip of paper and hang it on sacred bamboo display.

In the Edo period, various street performers used to be active around the town.
We specially allow some today’s performers to show their skill on the streets in our park to recreate the atmosphere in those days.

Let’s Take a Photo with Hina Dolls!
Traditional Hina Dolls Exhibition
“HINA-MATSURI” is Japanese Girls' Festival on March 3rd.
It is a traditional event in hope of the healthy growth of girls, ornamenting a set of dolls “O-HINA-SAMA” in the style that was formed in the Edo era.
Here we show you some deluxe “O-HINA-SAMA.” Would you like to take a photo with your favorite one?
